Cherry promptly throws a Coke at him and he leaves. In the second chapter after they go to the movie's, he attempts to flirt with Cherry. For example, he told Johnny "Now that I'm out (of prison), I'm gonna make it my business to get the guy who did that to your face".ĭally is a tough, friendly and loyal guy who hangs out with Johnny and Ponyboy. He says to Johnny at one point "My old man doesn't give a hang if I'm in jail dead in a car wreck or drunk in the gutter," He is mean to many people such as Cherry, but it is shown he cares for his gang and treats them like family. Dallas was also treated poorly by his father which contributed to his toughness. He spent three years on the wild side of New York and was arrested at the young age of ten. He also wears a necklace that he had reclaimed from his girlfriend after she cheated on him while he was in jail.ĭallas was hardened from a tough upbringing. After that, he instead wears a dark blue jean jacket. He wears dark blue jeans, and, in the first few minutes of the movie he is featured in, a dark brown leather bomber jacket and a black shirt he gives the jacket to Ponyboy when he comes to Dallas for help after Johnny kills Bob. He had a height of 6'2", and had blazing blue eyes which Ponyboy describes as "cold with all the hatred in the world." However, in the movie, Dally has brown hair and eyes. Dally didn't like haircuts nor hair oil, so his almost white-blonde hair (likely Platinum-Blonde) fell over his forehead in wisps. Buck loans Dally his T-Bird.In the book, Dallas Winston is said to have an elfish face with high cheekbones, a pointed chin, small, sharp animal teeth, and ears like a lynx. Johnny and Pony find Dally at Buck's party. Pony confides everything to him, and he still calls them heroes.īuck Merril Dally's rodeo partner, a man in his mid 20s. He rides along with Pony in the ambulance and calls the boys heroes. Jerry Wood The overweight man at the church fire. His greaser gang is rougher, and the members are termed "future convicts." He is both Dally's main rival and friend. Tim Shepard A fellow greaser, but not a member of the main characters' gang. Randy Adderson The owner of the blue Mustang that haunts Johnny. Johnny Cade kills Bob during an altercation when some Socs try to drown Ponyboy. She gives Two-Bit her phone number, but he throws it away.īob Sheldon The Soc who originally attacked Johnny, and then attacks both Johnny and Pony in the park. Marcia Cherry's girlfriend at the drive-in. Cherry is attracted to Dally, and becomes a spy for the greasers. Cherry and Ponyboy meet at the drive-in and become friends. Sherri (Cherry) Valance A cheerleader and the girlfriend of Bob, the Soc who is killed. He is the wisecracking comedian of the gang. Keith (Two-Bit) Mathews The oldest of the gang, except for Darry, and still a junior in high school at age 18. He is 17 and works at the gas station with Soda. Steve Randle Soda's best friend and fellow greaser. Johnny Cade The "gang's pet." He is 16 years old, physically small, and comes from a physically and verbally abusive home. He is a bit tougher than the others in Ponyboy's gang, and at 17 he has already seen the inside of a jail. He works too hard and too long, and would be in college, if life had turned out different.ĭallas (Dally) Winston A fellow greaser, who is originally from New York City. He is "movie-star" handsome.ĭarrel (Darry) Shayne Curtis The 20-year-old brother and legal guardian of Ponyboy and Soda. He is a high school dropout and works at the local gas station. Soda(pop) Patrick Curtis Ponyboy's 16-going-on-17-year-old brother. His parents have been killed in an automobile accident, and he lives with his two brothers. Ponyboy Michael Curtis A 14-year-old boy who is the narrator and main character in The Outsiders.
